Whilst in Australia, my son and myself stayed with my sister. My sister lives in a suburb of Sydney ten minutes or so from a beautiful place called Manly. The beauty of Sydney is that you have the beach-life and city-life side by side almost. Usually when we go away we either take a city break or a beach holiday. In Sydney we had the best of both worlds! The weather was amazing whilst we were there – hot and sunny. Perfect beach weather. Manly beach was predominantly a surfers beach with big waves and strong tides. But, we did manage a day on Manly beach when the sea was fairly calm.
A very pretty ten minute walk along a pedestrianised coastal path was Shelley Beach. Whilst we were there it was voted number seven of the top one hundred best kept secrets in Australia, which gives an idea of how beautiful it is. The water was warm and calm and it was here that Sam tried diving for the first time! The little beach cafe here did the nicest scrambled eggs with bacon for breakfast!
A short walk through the shopping area of Manly brought you to Manly Wharf – where the ferries to Sydney arrive and depart. Here the water was calm and clear and the little beach areas sandy and clean.
A walk along the coastal path out of Manly brought us to a lovely sea water pool right next to another nice little beach. The walk took us along the cliff tops and the views were spectacular.
And then there is the famous Bondi Beach. We stopped here whilst on an open top bus tour of Sydney and Bondi. Again it was a beautiful hot day and we enjoyed splashing in the waves to cool off!
